Travel Europe for FREE!

European Commission has allocated 16 million Euros for 20.000 travel passes for EU citizens aged 18, to travel and to discover Europe. The selection of applicants takes place via an online application tool available on the European Youth Portal and interested participants should enroll before the 28 November 2019.

If you are not yet aged 18, pass this info to others and plan yourself for the future!

Applicants first have to register online on the European Youth Portal and pass the eligibility criteria check. They have to be EU nationals and to have 18 years and for this year selection to be born between 1 January 2001 (included) and 31 December 2001 (included).

You may apply to travel alone, or in a group up to 5 people (with the same criteria: to be EU national and aged 18).

Then, all applicants need to complete a quiz. They have to answer 5 multiple choice quiz questions on general knowledge about the European Union and other European Union initiatives targeting young people.

Finally, an additional question invites applicants to make an estimate. The closer the estimate is to the correct answer, the more points applicants get.

The correct replies to the quiz and this final question will enable the Commission to make the selection and to rank the applicants. 20.000 travel passes are here, waiting to be used!

An evaluation committee will assess the applications and select the winners. Applicants will be notified of the selection results in January 2020.

Young people can travel for a minimum of 1 day and up to 1 month. They should visit at least one Member State in the European Union other than their country of residence. For this round, trips must start between 1 April 2020 (first departure date) and 31 October 2020 (last return date).

Sustainable travel means are important. As a basic rule, participants will travel by rail. Nevertheless, in order to ensure the widest possible access — for instance among young people with special needs, or those living on islands or in remote areas — alternative transport modes can be offered, such as flights, coaches or ferries, when necessary and taking into account environmental, travel and distance consideration. Travel will be in second class.

Remember: the theme for 2019 is “Learning about Europe”. The theme for 2020 will be "Sustainable Green Europe".
