On Thursday 24th June, European School students of the primary cycle had the opportunity to explore through various playful activities the role of the European Institutions and their impact on the democratic development of our society. This event was addressed to 4th and 5th-year levels and took place in three languages: Italian, English and French, in the Aula Magna.
In the Aula Magna, two classes were at a time, participating in this event, at the lessons which were held in different languages. All the lessons were coordinated by Mr Maurizio Molinari, the head of the European Parliament Office in Milan. The event was one hour long per session.
Firstly, there were the introductions, where each student introduced themselves by stating their name, where they were from, and how many languages they spoke. A short introduction video followed, explaining the role of MEPs and how the E.U makes decisions. At the end of it, Mr Molinari encouraged the pupils to post a short video on social media about what they want the E.U to be like. Lastly, they split into two teams and played a digital game with questions to test their general knowledge about the E.U.
Overall, the students were excited and participated a lot through the game and the presentation, asking many questions.
Afterwards, Mr. Molinari said, in regards to the student’s participation: “They were enthusiastic, well-informed with strong national identity as well as a strong European identity.”
In the frame of the Conference on the future of Europe year, this is an important experience in collaboration and with the participation of the European Parliament Office in Milan and opens the way to an educational path aiming at promoting the European culture and spirit in our school.
