Since the beginning of the quarantine, opera houses and theaters have closed their doors. Many people find themselves confined in their home with time on their hand. And thus, some artists have decided to seize this great opportunity in order to introduce the quarantined people to their world of music and art.
Musicians and Dancers let their imagination flourish by posting quarantine-themed videos and expressing themselves through their art form on social media.
Live ballet lessons have started to appear on Instagram with dancers such as New York City Ballet principal Tiler Peck, as well as ballet classes on YouTube with, for example, Miami City Ballet principal Kathryn Morgan.
If you have a bit of time on your hands, or if you are looking for a nice thing to do with your family, recently many companies have uploaded performances on YouTube which you can watch for free. The Royal Opera House and the Cirque du Soleil are two examples. Other platforms like ARTE and Warner Classics have equally uploaded concerts and shows for you to enjoy.
These shows often include stars such as Sergei Polunin, Steven McRae, Eva Marton and Luciano Pavarotti whose performances are sure to startle and amaze you.
I would personally recommend you watch the magnificent Swan Lake of the Kirov ballet available on the Warner Classics channel if you are new to the classical world. It is probably the most iconic ballet as its powerful music (Tchaikovsky) and breathtaking choreography (Petipa) combine perfectly in order to create one of the greatest masterpieces ever made.
Another beautifull ballet is Peter and the Woolf of The Royal Opera House (Sergei Polunin). If you are interested in singing and opera, I would recommend you watch both Tosca by Puccini and Aïda by Verdi since they have both very emotional music and lyrics.
I hope you will spend a great time watching these!
