Less than two weeks ago I had the opportunity of going to the Philosophy Festival in Modena. I believe that my experience was quite different from that of others attending, since it was a trip originally aimed at only seventh years, yet myself among three other sixth years also tagged along. At this time, I hadn’t even studied philosophy for two full weeks at school so I was certain that I would have problems following the lectures, yet I was pleasantly surprised to find a few that not only I understood, but also enjoyed.

The Philosophy festival took place between three cities: Modena, Carpi and Sassuolo. Each city held six lectures a day over the course of three days, which seems like a crazy amount… because it is! Especially when each lecture lasts an hour and a half! Luckily, we could choose which to attend, so I usually only attended half of them. The rest of the time was spent walking around the cities and looking for a place to shelter us from the heat. We also found a place that served a really great Parmigiana! Despite the lectures being extremely interesting, they were also draining. The combination of the smoldering heat and having to focus extra hard as a newbie to philosophy certainly didn’t help. That’s why I really appreciated having so much free time, we could unwind and enjoy some bubble tea in the beautiful city.
