The Göteborg Book Fair is the most important event in Scandinavia for people in the book business.
Since 1985 annually the Swedish city of Göteborg brings together teachers, librarians and book lovers, politicians, Nobel premium laureates and plenty of interesting personalities.
This year again thousands of visitors are expected from around 30 countries worldwide.
There you may get an autograph from a book writer, join a live presentation or discussion forum, stroll the book stands, observe new design styles, and watch out for novelties in the book industry. It is there that editors' meet, discuss and decide which books to translate in which languages, and what we read eventually.
It is also a manifestation of arts and culture, a four day long literary festival, a tribute to freedom of expression and a place for readers and writers to meet and celebrate the power of stories.
Swedish princess Madeleine is also visiting the book fair where she is presenting her book “Stella och hemligheten” (Stella and the Secret). The Princess wrote the book with Karini Gustafson-Teixeira and Marie Oskarsson in cooperation with the World Childhood Foundation. The book is beautifully illustrated by Stina Lövkvist. The Queen Silvia of Sweden has founded the World Childhood Foundation and the Princess Madeleine is working together. It is the organization that for 20 years tries to prevent violence and sexual abuse against children. The benefits from the book sale will go to fund organization's work.
