The teenage brain

Your teenage years are crucial, because of the significant growth and development inside the brain.

But what exactly happens to your brain during puberty? During your developing years, the part of your brain called the amygdala makes adolescents act differently and causes changes in behaviour.

In these teenage years, you are at the beginning of your development. I especially noticed this, since some of my friends have changed drastically since primary school. Over the coming years, they will continue to develop till the age of physically and mentally 25, when the brains are finally fully developed.

Adolescents differ from adults in the way they behave, solve problems, and make decisions. At times teenagers might feel distant from their parents because they don't think they understand their feelings. Some teenagers might feel like no one understand them. It is also common to feel lonely, but the fact is, that every adult has been through that phase as well.

Here are some tips to keep your head high during these years: be kind, so people will be kind to you

  • do not focus on drama and social media

  • stay positive and talk to someone if you feel sad

  • focus on school, but also enjoy your free time

The period between childhood and adulthood can be quite hard and emotional, but remember, that these years will be the best years of your life!
