The “Festa dell’Atletica” has been an ESV tradition for a very long time. Even this year, the secondary and the elder primary classes have celebrated ESV’s Festa dell’Atletica at the end of October.
Many students of all ages have participated in this event, fully committing to the games and enjoying their times with their friends in the meantime. The race consisted in being first in a race of a number of laps, depending on which class grade.

The best time this year was by the S7 student Anthony Mammoliti who managed to run one kilometre in 2.58 minutes, for all the five laps he was in the lead of the race, never slowing down a single moment.
By interviewing him, we got many interesting feedbacks on how he feels about the race and the event. One must for sure think that to perform such a short time, Anthony does a lot of athletic preparation; actually, he did not specifically train for the race, he has just performed his daily hockey training. Before the race, the Champion of this year was feeling “like everyone else” and he was then very nervous. This uncomfortable situation did not let him down, though; to calm his nerves, he took a couple deep breaths right before the start signal, which apparently is an efficient method. Then, during the race Anthony kept his focus and did not let himself being distracted by the cheering shouts of his friends; he zoned out in a way, which he felt like running in a bubble, he could not hear the noises outside for how deeply he was concentrating. At the end of the race, as soon as he crossed the finish line, everything came back to reality, and he heard all the shouts and cheers he deserved. Anthony has revealed us that after the race felt a special connection, some kind of “respect” for those who like him ran the race and put all their energy and effort in it.
In the end, the congratulations from all his friends and teachers made him very proud of himself: “it feels amazing” he commented to the question.
The Festa dell’Atletica is always a funny event and an excellent opportunity for coaching and team-building, as so many students put much effort not only in running the race but also in organizing music performances, preparing food and refreshments and taking pictures to remember the good times.
